I had an ACL injury during my competition in China in 2015. With the help of the National Sports Institute(ISN) gym facilities and Coach expertise in sports injury. I had my rehabilitation process back to normal in a very short time and I was back on the racing track within a month or so. Without his guidance and support, I wouldn’t be where I am today.
PETALING JAYA: After 21 years serving in the National Sports Institute, German physiotherapist Jorg Teichmann is ready for his next venture.
The German, after years of doing physio and rehabilitation for various national athletes, has now opened a physiotherapy centre called Rehamed Therapy located at UOA Business Park in Shah Alam to share his expertise with the public.
As much as helping athletes recover from their injuries has brought him joy, he didn’t want to be limited to just athletes – he wanted to help more people.
“I’m happy to have opened this centre because I wanted to do this for a long time. I’ve been working with the NSI for 21 years and last year, I knew something was going to happen,” said the charismatic physiotherapist.
“At the end of June last year, I wanted to set up something with a friend. We decided to open this centre to help more people.”
Having coached several athletes like Loo Kum Zee and Lee Hup Wei, he wants to create more awareness on the importance of physiotherapy and tell people that it’s not exclusive to athletes.
“Some people think that if they’re injured, all they need to do is just rest.
“But it involves a lot of rehabilitation and prevention. So, we want to be there for these people.
“Now, the younger generation realise that to be successful in their jobs, they have to be fit. So physiotherapy is essential for them. I hope this centre will be a great success and people will accept what we’re doing.”
Managing director of Rehamed Therapy Datuk Lourdes Charles said he wanted to have the centre 20 years ago when he was doing physiotherapy with Jorg.
“I did my rehabilitation with Jorg many years ago and some of the exercises he did, I felt it was crazy and didn’t make any sense. However, he stood beside me and explained every single workout,” said Lourdes.
“Thanks to him, I was able to jog on the pitch again. At that point, I told myself that if this man leaves NSI, I would love to open a centre with him.”
